Avive Secures $57M to Enhance Cardiac Arrest Response with Portable Defibrillator Network

Avive Solutions, Inc. recently secured $56.5 million in growth equity financing in support of their approach to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) management. This funding round, led by Questa Capital, Laerdal Million Lives Fund, and Catalyst Health Ventures, with contributions from RC Capital and Eckuity Capital, outlines the growing interest in Avive’s innovative approach to emergency cardiac care. The infusion of capital is for expanding Avive’s team and accelerating the deployment of its cutting-edge Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the United States. Avive’s initiative to deploy their FDA-approved, connected AEDs, which have received awards and widespread acclaim, addresses a gap in emergency responses to cardiac arrests. By integrating sophisticated connectivity technologies, including cellular, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth, Avive’s AEDs can be managed remotely and can cut down the time to intervene during cardiac emergencies. This technological integration aims to transform the landscape of SCA outcomes by ensuring AEDs are not only more accessible but also effectively deployed within the first few minutes following a SCA.

The backbone of Avive’s strategy is its “4-Minute City” initiative, which leverages data and advanced networking to optimize AED placements throughout various communities. This program involves analyzing historical SCA data to locate AEDs where they are most likely to be needed, integrating these devices into local 911 and public safety systems in partnership with RapidSOS. Such integration allows for real-time, data-driven responses that can guide bystanders and first responders to the exact location of required AEDs swiftly. Avive’s implementation of this model in cities like Cumberland County, PA; Jackson, TN; Forsyth County, GA; and Carrollton, TX, has shown promising early results, with plans for expansion into additional cities in 2024. By making AEDs more visible and accessible, Avive aims to empower ordinary citizens, transforming them into immediate lifesavers, addressing the time gap before the arrival of emergency medical services.

Avive’s commitment to improving SCA response efficacy is complemented by its innovative software solutions like the REALConnect and Intelligent Response Platforms. These platforms enhance the usability and monitoring of AED networks, ensuring devices are properly maintained and ready for use when needed. The REALConnect Platform automates the oversight of AED fleets across various customer segments, including large enterprises, educational institutions, and government agencies. This system ensures compliance with safety regulations and facilitates a quick reaction during cardiac emergencies. The Intelligent Response Platform goes a step further by integrating AEDs into a broader network that includes emergency services, enhancing the coordination and efficiency of SCA responses. Such integrative efforts are necessary for improving survival rates from SCAs, which remain low across the nation.

Avive’s recent achievements and rapid growth outline the pressing need for innovation in the field of emergency cardiac care. With over 430,000 Americans losing their lives to SCA annually, the introduction of connected and easily accessible AEDs could represent a leap forward in public health. Avive’s efforts to distribute its technology widely, coupled with its vision led by founders Sameer Jafri, Rory Beyer, and Moseley Andrews, promise to enhance the capabilities of bystanders and professional responders. The company’s vision of embedding cutting-edge technology into traditional emergency medical responses is not just a testament to innovation but a potential lifesaver for thousands, reflecting a shift towards more proactive and responsive healthcare solutions in emergencies. Through these concerted efforts, Avive aims to elevate the standards of emergency care and boost the chances of survival for SCA patients, potentially setting a new benchmark in the treatment and management of one of the leading causes of death in the United States.
